Recording and Mixing
Asylum Digital features an intimate live room with 3 various-sized iso booths, purpose-built around our collection of modern and vintage recording gear. We feel that the layout of our space (along with clean lines of sight between all iso’s) allows for plenty of flexibility, whether we are tracking a full band / ensemble, overdub session, vocalist, commercial v/o or podcast.
We have a hybrid approach to recording and mixing sound at Asylum Digital. By “hybrid”, I mean that we utilize both a DAW and an awesome selection of outboard gear. This approach allows us to get the absolute best vibe and results for your recording project (both at the front-end and at mix). Speaking of front-end, we’ve been building and curating our microphone/microphone preamp collection for decades now.
We can get the sound you’re looking for!

Clients that have started a production at home or another studio often ask - “How can I bring my project to Asylum Digital”?
The most efficient way to transfer digital files between recording studios (or other DAW platforms) is via the Broadcast Wav Files (BWF) format. The BWF file format allows for an extra file extension of metadata, allowing audio processing elements to identify themselves, document their activities and permit time/session placement synchronization with other recordings. This metadata is stored as an extension chunk in an otherwise standard digital audio WAV file. BWF is now the audio format of choice between motion picture, recording studios and television production. You are welcome to bring your files to us on an external flash/hard drive (USB2 or 3 is preferrable) or upload through a file transfer service (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc…).
Check our Mixing Services and Session Delivery Guidelines and File Consolidation Guidelines for step-by-step instructions to properly export sessions from all major DAW’s (including Pro Tools, FL Studio, Logic, Reaper, Cubase/Nuendo, Garage Band and Reason).
