At Asylum Digital, we are here for one reason - we LOVE music!
Scott Slagle - owner/engineer/producer
Scott is a 17-year veteran of the Carolinas music scene and has worked extensively with indie and major label acts of all genres.
During those years, Scott has worked as a freelance engineer/producer in such studios as The Bassment, Chung King, D&D, DARP, Firehouse, The Hit Factory, HUSH Studios, Reflection Sound Studios and The Sonic Cafe.
Growing tired of the ethics of many studios in the region, Scott opened the doors of Asylum Digital Recording Studios in 1998. With hard work and a genuine respect for the craft, he has overseen two major expansions in eight years.
Scott is 1/3 of The Collection Agency, a production team that also consists of Stephen Barrett & Jason Michel. Scott is also a voting member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES).

Stephen Barrett - graphic artist/producer
Stephen has been part of this areas hip-hop/drum and bass dj scene for about 10 years.
Scott saw Stephen perform at the 2002 DMC Southeast semi-finals. Impressed by his turntabalism and ear for perfection, Scott soon began to share with Stephen the fundamentals of studio recording and production.
Since then Stephen has grown tremendously as an artist and has become very skilled at producing hip-hop, drum and bass and electronic music in general.
Stephen is also an amazing graphic artist and is instrumental to the success of our 2D graphics wing. Stephen can help you design your complete album layout and/or all of your promotional materials (handbills, flyers, posters, t-shirts, etc.)

Sloan McLaughlin - web designer/studio musician
Sloan has been part of the regional indie rock scene for over 13 years, originally as rhythm guitarist for Random Ged and currently as drummer/drum programmer/keyboardist/guitarist/bassist/vocalist (in that order) in Bullship.
Like most indie rock artists Sloan is not a "trained musician", but he has a good ear and can use it to add that vintage feel to your recording, whether it be 60's R&B on the acoustic drums, 70's arena rock on the bass, 80's alternative on the keys, 90's indie rock on the guitar, or some combination of the above.
Since he has recorded everywhere from inside an 8'x 12' storage building to the studios where REM put their early work to tape, and with everything from a cassette radio w/built-in mic to all the equipment listed on our Studio Gear page, Sloan is a great resource for any project featuring live instrumentation (even if you plan to loop it later).
Sloan is also a web designer who specializes in designing websites and coding them such that the owner can maintain them, which is especially ideal for the working musician who often needs to make changes to their calendar at a moments notice.
Influences: 90 Day Men, A Minor Forest, American Analog Set, Antioch Arrow, Archers Of Loaf, Riow Arai, Bellini, Tony Bennett, Black Sabbath, Blonde Redhead, Boredoms, Boston, Brainiac, Burning Airlines, C Average, Chavez, Chisel Drill Hammer, Cocteau Twins, Codeine, CCR, Daisy Chainsaw, Miles Davis, Deerhoof, Depeche Mode, Devo, Dilute, Don Caballero, Enemymine, Euphone, Bill Evans, Fixx, Flaming Lips, Foreigner, John Frusciante, Fucking Champs, Fugazi, Serge Gainsbourg, Gapeseed, Gastr Del Sol, Marvin Gaye, Great Unraveling, Al Green, Isaac Hayes, Hella, Jimi Hendrix, Ilium, Jackson 5, Michael Jackson, Jawbox, Jesus Lizard, Journey, June Of 44, Led Zeppelin, Lush, Macha, Make Up, Dean Martin, Curtis Mayfield, Melvins, My Bloody Valentine, Os Mutantes, Oxes, Pan American, Pavement, Pixies, Polvo, Posies, Red House Painters, Rein Sanction, Rumah Sakit, Seely, Shellac, Shudder To Think, Six Finger Satellite, Elliot Smith, Sonic Youth, Stereolab, Swell, Swervedriver, Swirlies, Television, Tortoise, Unrest, Unwound, Van Halen, Venemous Concept, Volta Do Mar, Barry White, Bobby Womack and Stevie Wonder.

As you can see, each individual on our staff is a musician, songwriter or "audio junkie" by nature.
It is this passion for sound recording that has attracted small project, indie and major label artists to us since day one.
Regardless of budget, each and every project is treated with the same care and priority as if it was our very own.
